The World Merlot Competition is an international wine contest awarding the best Merlot grape wines from around the world.
The judges, internationally renowned experts, taste samples from around the world divided into four categories: the classics - pure red Merlot (85% Merlot minimum) and old vintages with 85% of 2003 vintage Merlot and older vintages) and two new ones: red blends (minimum 51% Merlot), 'blancs de noir’ (85% Merlot).
Note that these nectars come from 23 different countries with 80% coming from the Old Continent in the following order: Switzerland, Italy, France, Germany, Austria and Spain, not forgetting the Eastern Europe.
The remaining 20% comes from the New World: Australia, Argentina, Chile, USA and South Africa.
